Recruiting people from diverse ethnic communities with lived experience of stroke and fatigue to advice on University of Birmingham's 'COMbAT Fatigue' study

Overview

Egality supported ‘COMbAT Fatigue‘ – a study aimed at developing a self-management intervention for people who have experienced fatigue after a stroke or a mini-stroke (TIA). Our focus was to recruit people from diverse backgrounds to participate in focus groups and interviews led by the research team.

Outcomes

  • Facilitated a communications workshop with the research team, community organisations, and people who have experienced a stroke
  • Worked collaboratively to develop recruitment materials e.g., flyers, posters, and videos
  • Delivered a recruitment campaign across social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), as well as newsletters and community WhatsApp groups
  • Worked with ‘Chiara Beer’ a stroke survivor and advocate to develop short, engaging content for Instagram
  • Recruited 14 people from diverse ethnic groups and diverse socio-economic backgrounds to participate in focus groups
